The Northwoods Fiber Guild (NFG) is excited to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the Northern Fibers Retreat with North House Folk School. This milestone year brings changes and a new name “Fiber Week.”
Fiber Week will be held at North House February 11-17, featuring guest instructors, a speaker series, 20 courses, open studios and a fiber fair, chili feed, and other community gatherings.
NFG members will once again offer the fiber program for kids. New this year is “Youth Fiber Discovery Day” on Friday, February 14, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A full day of in-depth coursework and activities will be available for students age 9-14. Classes will include needle felting wool art, designing paper flag books, Suminagashi ink marbling on note cards, weaving yarn on looms and branches, braiding Kumihimo cords, sewing felt animal masks, and stitching a purse or pouch with a sewing machine. Tuition is $35 materials included. A 25 percent local discount is available.
NFG members will also be teaching several adult classes during Fiber Week. In 2020 a new floor loom weaving curriculum was added at North House thanks to the generous support of NHFS members.
The annual Show & Share” session will be hosted by NFG on February 14, at 7 p.m. at North House. Everyone is welcome to share their fiber work, learn about other guilds, and enjoy refreshments.
