Yoga classes to be offered starting October 15

In one way or another the last couple of years have rocked life as we know it. The mental, emotional, and physical stress all takes a toll on our bodies and minds. In times of stress, personal or global, we rely on our well-worn habits, good or bad. If we cultivate positive habits and practices now, we can be prepared when the world knocks us down.

For me, the practice of yoga was a turning point. It was the first time I truly felt like I paused and was able to take a deep breath. Yoga is and should be so much more than getting into the perfect pose. This ancient practice teaches mindfulness, positively impacts mental well-being, and of course is a physical practice.

Research continues to show the positive effects of practicing yoga for all ages. This project has the potential to positively impact our community in the immediate future and long term. Immediately we can help populations that are extra vulnerable to the effects of the global pandemic – social isolation, anxiety, depression, and more.

I am thrilled to share that, Andrea Orest of the SHIP program and I have collaborated to secure a grant from the Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging to bring these healthy practices to Cook County.

Starting October 15th, I will be joining various classes at Oshki Ogimaag Charter School, Great Expectations School, ISD166, and offering a community wide class at The Hub.
