The Viking volleyball team was busy last week with back-to-back away games at Lake View Christian Academy

on September 14 and Wrenshall on

September 15, then after a few days of

practices at home, they were back on the road traveling to Barnum to play in a tournament hosted by Barnum.

At LVC, Coach Pam Taylor got a chance to play some of her bench players, giving them some experience. The Vikings took control right from the get-go and easily beat the LVC Lions in three straight games 25-8, 25-17, 25-13.

Leading the way for the Vikings at LVC were Ashley Deschampe and Essa Jacobsen with four kills each and Brea Boomer and Ashley Green with three kills each. Carly Puch and Kristina Rude each had seven set assists.

The next day a tired Viking team traveled to Wrenshall to take on the Wrens. The Vikings didn’t get in a normal warm up and being tired affected their play. They made some mental errors but still managed to come away with a match win in three straight wins, 25-11, 25-20, 25-22.

Senior Taryn Logan had a great night serving and in the second game served the final five points to help the Vikings in the win.

Leading the Vikings at Wrenshall were Christina Nelson with 10 kills and Ashley Deschampe with six kills. Carly Puch had 12 set assists and Kristina Rude added six set assists. Essa Jacobsen had three solo blocks and three assisted blocks and Brea Boomer had two solo blocks.

On September 19, the Vikings traveled to Barnum to play in a tournament.

In pool B was Cook County, Wrenshall, and Barnum. The Vikings played Wrenshall first and beat them in two very exciting games, 25-22 and 25-20, sending the Wrens on an early trip home.

In their second match, the Vikings played a very tough Barnum team. The Vikes fought hard but came up short and lost to Barnum in two games 15-25, 18-25. This gave the Vikings a second place in their pool, advancing them to a game against Silver Bay in pool A.

It was a North Shore battle and after two games the teams were split, which sent them into a third game. Kristina Rude served 14 straight serves and along with some great playing from her teammates, the Vikings beat SB in game three to win the match 25-10, 21-25, 15-1.

This advanced the Vikings into a semifinal round with the Cromwell Cardinals. TheVikings dropped the first game to the Cardinals, but not wanting to go down, the Vikings beat Cromwell in the next two games, advancing to the championship round against Barnum.

The Vikings played some solid games, but ended up losing to Barnum in two games in the championship round, but the Vikings earned a second place finish. Congratulations, Vikings!

Come cheer our Vikes!
