Spring flowers and music at Care Center

The spring flowers and warmer weather are certainly welcomed by the residents at North Shore Care Center. Many folks have been getting outdoors on the patios for activities, which has lifted everyone’s spirits.

June is National Outdoors Month, Gardening Month, Men’s Month, and Dairy Month. The month will start out with planting flowers and veggies in earth boxes— and the rest of the month will be spent watching everything grow.

On June 14, Flag Day will be observed with a history and trivia session. This year the North Shore Community Band will present favorite American songs for Flag Day with a performance at 7 p.m. The official first day of summer is coming soon on June 21. The Sivertones will help mark the longest day of the year with a Solstice Jazz Celebration on the patio at 6 p.m.

Other live music lined up this month at the Care Center will include music nights with Al Fuller, Myron Bursheim, and Paul Pederson. The band Portage will also perform their classic country music for a dance on Saturday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. As always, families and community members are welcome to join in the fun at our music events.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on June 8 at 2:30 p.m. to honor Janet Morgan, Donny Schulte, and Donna Willett. Piano music will be provided by Suzy Lindskog with plenty of cake and ice cream served. Some Middle School students from ISD 166 will attend the party to give handmade gifts to the residents.

We hope for good weather this month for our trips out in the community to the Strikepoint concert at Bethlehem Lutheran, the ACA Playhouse, and for lunch at the Senior Center.

Thanks goes out to our faithful volunteers who helped so much during our busy Older Americans Month. A special thank you to musicians Doug Sanders, Briand Morrison, and Max Bichel for a great jazz performance at the Senior Prom this year.

There are many fun volunteer opportunities at North Shore Care Center during the summer months. Please consider giving some time to assist with a garden project, an outing, or a special event.
