Spring fever has arrived at the North Shore Care Center with the warmer April weather and longer days of sunlight. The residents are looking forward to spring-like activities with indoor and outdoor planting by Earth Day and making crafts for the upcoming Spring Fling Sale.

There will be outings in the community for shopping downtown and to the Grand Marais Playhouse for the play First Baptist of Ivy Gap.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10 to honor Lorraine Duininck, Earl Anderson, and Delores McLean. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3:00 p.m. along with piano classics performed by Doug Sanders.

The Lioness Club will host their monthly social with special desserts on Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m. There will be piano music and a sing-along with Irene Thompson and Nora Bockovich.

The April music lineup will include musicians Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Bursheim, Kate Kelnberger, Harris Mills, and Irene Thompson. The classic county band Portage will perform their monthly gig on Saturday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. As always, families, friends, and community folks are welcome to attend.

The ladies will be busy with spring crafts all month as they prepare for the 3rd annual Spring Fling Sale. The sale is sponsored by Resident Council members on May Day and will be a great way to kick off Older Americans Month this year.

Students from the ISD 166 After School Program will be back to play bingo with the elders and help with some outdoor cleanup in our patios and backyard area.

April 21-27 is National Volunteer Week. We want to thank our dedicated volunteers for all that they do at the Care Center—and to let them know that the annual volunteer brunch will be held during Older Americans Month on Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. in the Care Center dining room.

There are volunteer opportunities for all ages at the North Shore Care Center. For more information about the activity calendar or volunteer programs, please contact the Activity Dept. at 218-387-3518 or visit our website www.nshorehospital.com.
