Red velvet and pink punch for Elders Valentine’s Day party

Eighteen Elders enjoyed the annual Valentine’s Day bingo at the Elder Nutrition Program held Thursday, February 11. Cooks Polly James and Cedar Denny outdid themselves with delicious from scratch, red velvet cupcakes, dips, fruits and veggie platters as well as a delectable, refreshing pink punch. What a treat with heart candy and valentines for all!

Twenty games were played with the winners choosing from a variety of wrapped packages. Sally Gagnon was the luckiest of players winning several games. Prizes were won by everyone with Polly James winning the last game, a cover all. Her prize was a beautiful handmade doll by our friend Donna Anderson. Donna was active with her husband Ron volunteering at ENP and Elder fundraisers and events for many years. Donna now lives out of state but still manages to help us out with the beautiful hand crafted things she sends to us. Miigwech to Donna and to all who worked to make this a fun event for everyone.

Tax preparations are in full swing at the Community Center. The AARP volunteers are here on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. through April 13. Tax returns are done on a first come first served basis so come prepared with your paper work & ID. We enjoy seeing Chuck and Loretta Flickenger and Bev Pratt each year during tax season. They take a break to have lunch with us at the ENP and we are able to catch up to renew our friendships. Anyone waiting for taxes is welcome to sign up to eat at the ENP by 9:00 a.m. that day. Stop in and let the cooks know.

The ENP is hosting a weekly “Chat & Visit” with the Elders and the students from Oshki Ogimaag Charter School Mondays after lunch at the ENP. Last week we had the 4th and 5th graders visit with four Elders and one young adult sharing memories of winter life when they were young. We will continue this for the remainder of the winter adding other grades and Elders throughout the season. It is fun to hear the Elders remember and interesting to hear the children’s questions.
