Picnic season is in full swing at the North Shore Care Center. July is National Picnic Month and Family Reunion Month and everyone is in good spirits with our beautiful weather. The residents and families enjoyed Memorial Day and Independence Day picnics and look forward to more of them this summer.
Warmer days mean outings in the community for lunch at the Senior Center, shopping downtown, time at the parks on the harbor, the Dragon Boat festivities, and treats at the Dairy Queen.
The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 11 to honor Rueben Johnson, Neva Marks, and Joyce Kehoe. There will be cake and ice cream at 3 p.m. along with classic piano music by Susan Scherer.
Live music in July will feature Myron Bursheim and Al Fuller & Friends. The band Portage will perform their classic country music for a dance on Saturday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m. There will also be a presentation by storyteller, writer, and musician Colleen Sutherland on Monday, July 16 at 10 a.m. Families, friends, and community folks are welcome to attend
The garden projects at the Care Center are completed thanks to some generous donations in the past year. The new raised garden bed in the backyard patio is ideal for residents to plant, weed, and water. All the flowers and vegetables are doing great this year, which makes time on the patios much more enjoyable.
Many thanks to our volunteers, who continue to give their time and talents during the busy summer. In June, student volunteers from the Incredible Exchange Program started working with the Activity Department. Welcome Jaymee Dossey, Laura Foster, Cedric Rock, and Isak Terrill!
