Picnic season is in full swing at North Shore Care Center. On June 21, residents enjoyed a fishcake picnic on the patio—thanks to good weather and Marion McKeever, who prepared 140 fishcakes. Residents also enjoyed a picnic at the Grand Marais Recreation Park and look forward to more picnics this summer.
July is National Picnic Month, as well as Hot Dogs and Beans Month, Corn on the Cob Month, and Ice Cream Month. The activities planned for July will surely include all of these favorite summer foods.
Warm summer days mean more outings in the community. Residents will be going to the Senior Center Kegger Party, out to Naniboujou Restaurant for high tea, and down to the harbor for a picnic and to watch the Dragon Boat practice.
The monthly birthday party will be on July 14 at 3 p.m. with piano music by Susy Lindskog. There will be cake and ice cream for residents, families, and staff to honor Neva Marks and Joyce Kehoe.
The vegetables and flowers planted on our patios are flourishing with all the rain, and the ladies are busy with their list of garden and needlework projects for entries at the Cook County Fair in August.
Live music lineup in July will feature Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Burshiem, and the country band Portage. Theband Portage will perform Saturday, July 31 with dancing beginning at 6:30 p.m. As always, families and community members are welcome to join our music events.
Many thanks to our volunteers, who continue to give their time and talents during the summer. In June we welcomed two student volunteers to the Activity Dept. from the Incredible Exchange Program. Bethany Derscheid and Kimberlee Dossey are doing a great job. There are volunteer opportunities for all ages at North Shore Care Center.
Please consider assisting residents with craft projects, Bingo, or outings to special events. For more information, please contact the Activity Department at 218.3518 or go to our website, www.nshorehospital. com.
