Outdoor fun and more at Care Center

The residents at North Shore Care Center are spending lots of time outdoors with our great summer weather. The patio gardens are looking beautiful for our picnics, games, and other activities.

Fisherman’s Picnic is always a fun weekend with many families and friends visiting the Care Center. The Lions Club will deliver fishburgers for dinner on Thursday and the Arrowhead Transit bus will pick us up on Sunday to ride in the parade. There will be a High School Class Reunion Social on Saturday at 3 p.m. with cake and punch served. The Class of 1929 turns 100 years old this year, which includes Mable Stoltz and Irene Leng.

August outings will take us to a play at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, to the Cook County Fair, and lunch at Gunnar’s restaurant. The residents will have a variety of items to enter at the fair this year.

The monthly birthday will be celebrated on August 10 at 3 p.m. to honor Phyllis Anderson, Eleanor Matsis, Donovan Baklayar, Jack Halverson, Marie Jacobson, and Marigold Linnell. There will be piano music by Susi Lindskog with plenty of cake and ice cream.

August 21-27 is Hawaiian Week with something fun planned each day – Luau dinner, Hawaiian Bingo, the movie South Pacific, and games outdoors. The classic country band Portage will play for the Hawaii Five-O dance on Saturday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Other live music this month includes musicians Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Bursheim, and Paul Peterson. Families and community folks are always welcome to join in the fun.

Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers who continue to help us out throughout the busy summer. Our activity program would not be possible without you!
