Old Timers vs. Viking girls

2009 marks the 21st year of the Old Timers fast pitch softball game at Fisherman’s Picnic.

The original format of this game featured old timers, i.e. 40 years in age or over from Cook County, playing their counterparts from Lake County. In recent years, Lake County was unable to field a team so the game was changed.

Cook County High School added women’s softball to the athletic offering at the school and the Old Timers thought it would be nice to showcase the ladies’ team. TheOld Timers began playing the Viking girls three years ago and the record is Old Timers – 2 wins and the Vikings – 1 win.

CCHS Softball Coach Pam Taylor says her players are ready to go this year. The Viking team consists of current players and some recent graduates. The Old Timers welcome the challenge and just enjoy being able to play the game.

So fans, join us at the Grand Marais Rec. Park field at 6:30 Friday, July 31. Thehat may be passed in support of the girls program.
