Friday night of Fisherman’s Picnic, the oldtimers and Cook County High School girls’ softball teams met for the fifth year in a still somewhat new rivalry. A good crowd was on hand at the Rec. Park ball field to cheer on both sides.

The game belonged to anybody after four innings with the oldsters leading 9-6. The graybeards had some timely hits in the next two innings and prevailed 19-6.

Sarissa Falk, only a sophomore, pitched for the Vikings and did a finejob. Theyoung lefty was always around the plate with her pitches and displayed a lot of potential.

Dick Dorr pitched for the old-timers and had just enough on the ball to get it to the plate so his amazingly agile teammates could make the fielding plays. George Maruska stopped a Viking rally in the fourth inning with an unassisted double play from his third base position.

It was great fun and every year the old-timers look forward to the challenge. We’ve already been warned to look out for next year.

Carly Puch does a “happy dance” at second base. She celebrated a bit too soon—the Old Timers beat the Viking girls, 19-6.
