The holiday season was busy and joyful for residents at the North Shore Care Center with lots of traditional foods, music, gifts, and visitors. There were carolers of all ages and some fun volunteer elves during Christmas week.

2014 is here with the usual year-end trivia, resolutions for a new year, and more exercise groups. There will be “Kids & Bingo,” history sessions, Martin Luther King Day, and a Chinese New Year celebration. Outings with Arrowhead Transit will take us downtown for lunch at the Senior Center, and for a shopping trip.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 8 to honor Irma Larsen and Bud Hennessey. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. with piano music and a sing-along by Sherrie Lindskog and Nora Bockovich.

The Grand Marais Lioness Club will host their monthly social for residents with special desserts on Saturday, January 18 at 3 p.m., along with favorite piano tunes by Irene Thompson.

Additional live music this month will be performed by Myron Bursheim on Sunday afternoons, Irene Thompson on Monday evenings, Al Fuller on Tuesday nights and Susan Scherer on Wednesday nights.

The first dance of 2014 welcomes Portage—the award-winning classic country band that performs at the Care Center the last Saturday of the month throughout the year. The dance will be Saturday, January 25 at 6:30 p.m. As always, families and community members are invited to join in the fun.

The residents and staff would like to thank the volunteers for a memorable Christmas season. There were some generous donations given for residents from the American Legion Auxiliary, local churches, Care Center employees, and several families. We are truly blessed to live in such a caring community.

January 19 – 25 is National Activity Professionals Week—a time to recognize how meaningful activities and leisure time enrich the quality of life for all of us—regardless of our age. The Activity Dept. staff would like to acknowledge the many dedicated volunteers who enhance the activity programs all year long. We could not do it without you!
