It’s well known that lionesses are fierce protectors of their young, and that is also the mission of the Cook County Lioness Club, which raises funds mainly to serve the youth of our community. Many people don’t realize that the Lioness Club makes annual donations to local organizations, funds educational grants ($6,000 a year with matching funds from the Lions Club), and sponsors a college scholarship each year.
The Lionesses hold a monthly lunch meeting with a local speaker as well as planning service and fundraising events. This year’s primary fundraisers will be pecan sales and the annual Lioness Fisherman’s Picnic banquet.
This is a service organization with a smile. Lioness president Laurie Spry invites everyone interested in serving our youth to attend a charter event at the Dockside restaurant on October 12 at 6:30 p.m. More hands make easy work.
