Fall sports are in action preparing for a busy season. The Viking volleyball team began on August 10 with a captains’ practice led by the seniors. Regular season practice began on August 17. This year there are 34 girls in grades 9 -12th grades, playing on the three squads.

This year’s varsity team has five returning starters from last year and has seven other fantastic players with the leadership of six seniors.

The team had its first taste of action just five days into the first week of practice, traveling to Esko for a day jamboree hosted by Esko High School.

The Vikings played six half-hour scrimmages against six schools— Cromwell, Silver Bay, Two Harbors, Moose Lake, Floodwood, and Wrenshall.

Head coach Pam Taylor said the team played well in the jamboree. They had three hours of playing time and lots of time to get some touches on the ball. “I saw areas where we need to make adjustments,” said Coach Taylor, “And we are going to make changes in our lineup. We are going to work hard on our serving and passing game so we can run quicker sets. That’s our goal.”

The Viking volleyball team has its first regular season game at home on September 3.

The varsity team players are seniors Essa Jacobsen, Carly Puch, Christina Nelson, Sam Jacobsen, Ashley Green, Taryn Logan; juniors Brea Boomer, Ailee Larsen, Chelsey Sorenson, Linnea Leonard, Kristina Rude and sophomores Bekah Laky and Ashley Deschampe. The varsity coach is Pam Taylor.
