The residents at the North Shore Care Center have been taking advantage of our great weather with plenty of time outdoors. Many activities have been moved out to the patios in the mornings and afternoons to enjoy every bit of summer.

The month of August will be a rare one—it begins and ends with full moons—making it a “once in a blue moon” kind of month.

The Fisherman’s Picnic will be a fun weekend with families and friends in town. Residents will be treated to fishburgers on Friday night for dinner—thanks to the Lions Club. Several residents will also participate in the parade on Sunday.

August outings will take us downtown to the community park and Dairy Queen for treats, the Harbor Light Supper Club for a luau meal, and a play at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.

There are a lot of birthdays coming up in August. The monthly birthday party will be on August 8 at 3 p.m. with piano music by Doug Sanders. There will be cake and ice cream for residents and families to honor Phyllis Anderson, Eleanor Matsis, Donovan Bakalyar, Jack Halverson, Marie Jacobson, and Marigold Linnell.

On August 15 there will be a Day Camp for Elders at the Care Center. Volunteer students from the Incredible Exchange program will help set up an outdoor campsite with tents and water games. Camp stories will be shared followed by a picnic with hot dogs, homemade beans, and s’mores.

The end of the month marks Hawaiian Week with something tropical added to our activities each day. On Friday night, August 24 the band Portage will perform their country music for the Hawaii Five-O Dance at 6:30 p.m. Families and community members are welcome to join in the fun.

Many thanks to our volunteers, who continue to give so much of their time during these busy summer months. There are volunteer opportunities for all ages at the North Shore Care Center.
