The residents at North Shore Care Center will try to beat “cabin fever” with a full calendar of activities scheduled in February. There is a lot to look forward to all month.

February 2nd marks Groundhog Day, Super Bowl XLVIII, and national Popcorn Day. We’re sure to have six more weeks of winter this year!

Everyone is encouraged to wear red on Friday, February 7th to support Heart Health Awareness Month.

The Knifty Knitters group has put away their knitting to make Valentine crafts, homemade cards, and gift bags to exchange on Valentine’s Day. A special dinner theatre is planned on February 14 featuring favorite episodes of the I Love Lucy show – and a chocolate dessert.

A birthday party for Ina Radloff will be celebrated on Monday, February 3 with cake and ice cream after the lunch meal. The Lioness Club will host their monthly social on Saturday, February 15 at 3 p.m. There will be delicious desserts along with piano music by Irene Thompson.

Steve and Corky Stevens take a stroll on the dance floor as Portage played one of their favorite tunes.

There will be a piano recital at the Care Center with Laura Laky’s students on Thursday, February 13. Later that day The Sivertones perform their eclectic mix of blues and jazz music at 5:30 p.m.

At the end of the month the band Portage will play their classic country music for a dance on February 22 at 6:30 p.m. Just a reminder that Portage plays the last Saturday of each month. Families, friends, and community members are always welcome to join in the fun.

Additional music in February will include Myron Bursheim on Sundays, Irene Thompson on Mondays, Al Fuller on Tuesdays, and Susan Scherer on Wednesdays.

The Care Center continues to be a venue for great music. We thank the musicians, dancers, and families who contribute to our music scene all year long – especially during these long winter months. Music certainly lifts spirits to beat “cabin fever.”

There are volunteer opportunities for all ages at the North Shore Care Center. Please consider giving some time to assist with bingo, craft projects, an outing, or special events. For more information, contact the activity department at (218) 387- 3518 or visit www.nshorehospital.com.
