The summer is going by quickly for residents at the North Shore Care Center. Lots of time has been spent outdoors on the patios for daily activities, picnics, and enjoying the gardens.
We lucked out with great weather this summer for outings in the community and we look forward to several more this month including a shopping trip downtown, lunch at the Senior Center, and a leaf tour up the Gunflint Trail—with a stop at the Dairy Queen.
September is back to school month, the autumnal equinox, National Apple Month, and Harvest Month. We will begin cooking and baking some of our favorite apple and squash recipes real soon.
The first day of fall is officially September 22—which is also national Centenarian Day. There are two residents at the Care Center over the age of 100 at this time—congratulations Irene Leng and Wilma Liebsch!
The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 11 to honor Irene Leng and Gerri Futterer. There will be piano music and a sing-a-long with Sherrie Lindskog and Nora Bockovich at 3 p.m. plus plenty of cake and ice cream.
The Lioness Club will once again be hosting their afternoon socials on the third Saturday of the month on September 21. There will be special desserts for everyone at 3 p.m. along with piano music by Irene Thompson.
Additional live music this month will feature folk music with Myron Bursheim on Sunday afternoons, old country and gospel with Al Fuller on Tuesday nights and classic piano with Susan Scherer on Wednesday nights.
The band Portage will be back the last Saturday of the month on September 28 for their country music dance at 6:30 p.m. Families and community members are always welcome to join in the fun!
The residents and staff wish to thank all the wonderful volunteers who helped make many of our summer activities possible.
