The spirit of giving is always in season at the North Shore Hospital and Care Center – but even more so at this time of year. The residents count their blessings for family, friends, staff, and community members who give so much throughout the year.

As the holiday season begins, the giving has already started with donations for the Resident Council Holiday Sale and for Secret Santa gifts. The After School Lounge kids from ISD166 helped make ornaments for the sale, and staff brought in holiday baked goods, white elephant items, and Christmas gifts. Thanks, everyone!

We look forward to lots of visitors of all ages during the month of December. There will be school children, Girl Scouts, church groups, and many local musicians— Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Bursheim, Susy Lindskog, Laura Laky, Doug Sanders, and Harris Mills.

The Sivertones jazz ensemble will perform for a special Christmas Dance on Saturday, December 10 at 6:30 p.m. On New Year’s Eve the residents will ring in 2012 with the Lawrence Welk New Year Show. There will be music, dancing, a champagne toast, and the big countdown. The party starts at 6:30 p.m. As always, families, friends, and community members are welcome to join in the fun at our dances.

The residents will stay busy all season with decorating four trees, baking holiday favorites, and enjoying our annual White Christmas dinner theatre. Ethel Johnson will come in to make her famous lefse and the ladies will be baking cookies every Friday for the traditional Christmas Eve party with families, Santa, and Mrs. Claus.

December outings will take us to the Community Christmas Concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and to the holiday luncheon at the Senior Center.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14 to honor Margot Florell, Donna Helmerson, and Gerhard Miessner. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. along with classic piano tunes performed by Doug Sanders. Margot has a milestone birthday this year. At 105 years she is our oldest centenarian at the Care Center!

Many thanks to the volunteers who have given their time and talents throughout the year – our “regulars” who come in every week for reading, exercise groups, Bible study, crafts, bingo, word scrabble, Prayer & Share, current events, church services, computer time, parties, socials, live music, and dances. You have helped make 2011 a very wonderful year for us!

For more information about December activities contact the Activity Department at 218-387-3518 or go to the website www.nshorehospital.com.

The residents and staff at North Shore Hospital and Care Center wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
