The Elders enjoyed a wonderful February with heart celebrations that included nutrition, exercise and fun.
The ENP had a full house for our Valentine bingo. Everyone won something with Lillian Fisher as the luckiest of players winning several games as well as the cover all. Congratulations Lil!
Tess Bailey did a wonderful job sharing ideas on how to have a healthy heart. We learned about portion size, whole grains, choosing low-fat protein sources and easy ways to limit our salt intake. We all received a very useful food scale and an easy-to-understand conversion sheet. We love it when Tess comes as she has great information and wonderful gifts.
The Elders continue to participate with weekly water aerobics, chair exercise, Wisdom Steps and volunteering with the “Reading with Kids” program. All these activities keep us strong, healthy and engaged during the long months of winter.
Spring is in the air and the Elders will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Stew Cook Off & Meat Bingo on Thursday, March 21 at the lodge. The fundraiser will start at 5 p.m. with dinner and bingo to follow. Everyone is invited to enter a stew for the contest. Call Carol Hackett for more information at the ENP at (218) 475-2655. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward trips and activities at the ENP.
Many of the Elder women will be sewing a quilt to raffle at the Elder Pow Wow in May. Anyone interested is invited to stay after lunch on Wednesdays throughout March to work on it. These quilts are always a cherished prize for those who are lucky enough to win it.
The ENP and Wisdom Steps will be holding our annual Medicine Talk with pharmacist
Bob from the Grand Marais Pharmacy on Sunday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the ENP. All Elders are invited to participate. Carol will make her delicious potato soup and Patty will have something
Irish to go with the meal as it is St. Patrick’s Day. Watch for posters. Transportation will be provided. The ENP wishes everyone a Happy St Patrick’s Day!
