The residents at North Shore Care Center will have an extra day this month to fill the calendar with even more activities. There will be special festivities for Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Mardi Gras— and Leap Day!

Super Bowl Sunday is National Popcorn Day each year. Families are invited to enjoy a Super Bowl XLVI Party and watch the game on our large screen TV. Popcorn and pop will be served.

The ladies’ group will put down their knitting to make valentine crafts, homemade cards, and gift bags to exchange on Valentine’s Day—when residents will get together to watch some favorite episodes of I Love Lucy—and eat chocolate!

There are three fun dances to look forward to this month. The Sivertones will bring their eclectic mix of blues and jazz music to the Care Center on valentine’s Day, February 14 at 6 p.m.

A week later the annual Mardi Gras dance will take place on Fat Tuesday, February 21, featuring Dixieland music by the North Shore Community Band beginning at 6:30 p.m.

At the end of the month, the band Portage will perform their classic country music on February 25 at 6:30 p.m. Portage returns to play the last Saturday of each month throughout the year. As always, family, friends, and community folks are welcome to join any music events.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8 to honor Ina Radloff and Howard Joynes. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. with piano music performed by Susan Scherer.

Grand Marais Lioness Club members will host their monthly social for residents with delicious desserts on Saturday, February 18 at 3 p.m. Irene Thompson will provide her old-fashioned piano favorites for everyone.

Additional activities planned for February include history sessions using computer websites, baking cherry cheesecakes on Presidents’ Day, church services, Bible study, reading groups, movies, exercise groups, movies, Leap Year Bingo, word games, potting plants, lunch outings, and live music.

Some of our regular weekly musicians will be Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Bursheim, Susy Lindskog, Irene Thompson, and Harris Mills.

Many thanks to all of the volunteers and musicians who work at the Care Center during the winter months. The daily activities and special music certainly lifts spirits!
