North Shore Care Center knows how to beat “cabin fever” with a full calendar of activities planned in February. There are many fun days to look forward to this month – Groundhog Day, Super Sunday, Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day, and President’s Day.

The residents are busy making Valentine crafts, homemade treats, and gift boxes to exchange on Valentine’s Day when they get together to watch favorite episodes of I Love Lucy – and eat chocolate!

A birthday party for Ina Radloff will be celebrated on Sunday, February 3 with cake and ice cream after the noon meal. The Lioness Club will host their monthly social with special desserts on Saturday, February 16 at 3 p.m. along with lively piano music and a sing-a-long by Sherrie Lindskog and Nora Bockovich.

Students from the After School Program will be back at the Care Center in February to help out with bingo and enjoy the fun of the game with elders.

Plenty of music is planned during February, featuring three local groups as well as a number of other musicians. It all starts with the annual Mardi Gras Dance on Fat Tuesday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. highlighting Dixieland music by the North Shore Community Band.

The Sivertones will bring their eclectic mix of blues and jazz to the Care Center on Valentine’s night, February 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Later this month, the band Portage will perform classic county favorites on Saturday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m. The residents, staff, and families will have lots to cheer about at the dance when Portage returns from receiving a state volunteer award. As always, community folks are welcome to attend our music events.

Additional live music in February will be presented by Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Bursheim, and Harris Mills. The Care Center has become a venue for great music over the years. We thank everyone who contributes to the music and dancing scene—especially during these winter months to beat “cabin fever.”
