The residents at North Shore Care Center will beat “cabin fever” with a full calendar of activities during February.
The month starts out with a drive up the Gunflint Trail on February 2 in search of Punxsutawney Phil – the groundhog. Everyone is certain there will be six more weeks of winter – we just want to get out and see the beautiful snow.
Chinese New Year begins February 3. We will learn about the Year of the Rabbit with Mandy Schlienz and eat her homemade Chinese dumplings.
National Popcorn Day always falls on Super Bowl Sunday. Families are invited to enjoy a Super Bowl XLV Party on our big screen TV. Popcorn and pop will be served.
The monthly Birthday Party will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 9 to honor Ina Radloff and Howard Joynes. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. with piano music performed by Susy Lindskog.
The Lioness Club will host its monthly social for residents on Saturday, February 19 at 3 p.m. with special desserts and music provided by Irene Thompson.
The ladies will be busy making Valentine crafts and cards before St. Valentine’s Day. A Valentine’s Day “Dinner Theatre” is planned for the exchange of Valentines, a great meal, and an evening of episodes of the I Love Lucy show—and eating chocolate.
There will be special Valentine music on February 13 featuring favorite love songs with Myron Bursheim at 6 p.m. On February 14, John Gruber will perform his eclectic mix of music at 6 p.m.
The next dance at the Care Center will be February 26, featuring the country classic band Portage starting at 6:30 p.m. Portage performs the last Saturday of each month and the community is always welcome to join in the fun.
Additional live music in February will include Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Harris Mills, and newcomer Paul Peterson. The Care Center has become a venue for great music over the years. Local musicians are invited to add to the music scene this winter to lift spirits and beat “cabin fever.”
