After a very busy holiday season, the Grand Portage Elders are relaxing and taking it easy for a while. They had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. The Elders are back to their weekly activities, which includes water aerobics, chair exercises, cribbage and cards, Wisdom Steps, Reading with Kids and of course shopping trips.

We will have a mini powwow on Wednesday, February 8 at the Community Center. This includes dinner and all Elders are encouraged to come and dance, enjoy the children and each other’s company. Flyers will be posted and rides are available.

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a fun bingo at 1:00 p.m. on the 14th at the ENP.

This month’s news doesn’t sound very relaxing but it is good to be busy!

We wish to say goodbye to our long time neighbor and friend Marge Jamison. She has moved to the Care Center. We will miss seeing her every day but plan to visit her often and have her come out to see us as much as she wants.

The end of February we will be kicking off National Nutrition month. March will start with a presentation on the new “My Plate” food guide with Jaye Clearwater. Jaye will be deconstructing this guide for us throughout the month. We look forward to receiving this information and all the delicious and interesting foods she introduces us to.

We will have a presentation by Bonnie Brost, RD, LD, CDE, from St Mary’s Clinic on the topic Sugar: The Sweet & Sour on March 1. Bonnie is always interesting and full of useful information.
