Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year. Several Elders were able to get out and enjoy ringing in the New Year with Portage at the Community Center celebration. Fun was had by all who attended.

Although our congregate dinning numbers are down slightly, many Elders continue to brave the weather and get out participating in weekly water aerobics or chair exercise, Reading with Kids, meetings, trips to the Post Office and shopping.

A Chi Miigwech to the Elder Nutrition Program (ENP) staff for continually providing nutritious lunches, shoveling walkways, transportation and support!

Wisdom Steps partnered with one of our local church youth groups and held a fun night of Wii games at the lodge for Elders and youth. Although the weather was awful about a dozen people turned out. They enjoyed the games, a light supper and each other’s company. Fun was had so another game night will be scheduled soon. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

The Elder Advisory Committee met on Wednesday, January 29 at the ENP. Discussion was held about the Wisdom Steps Conference in June and the need for better transportation as it is so far away. Talked about was the idea to turn the trip to the conference into a longer trip scheduling other activities and days.

Also discussed was the annual St. Patrick’s Stew Cook Off & Meat Bingo. This will be held in March around the date of St. Patrick’s Day.

The Elders will be celebrating all things Heart Healthy in February. They will wear Red on Feb. 7, celebrate Valentine’s Day with a fun bingo at the ENP, enjoy a presentation with Nutrition Specialist Tess on heart healthy nutrition, an after lunch discussion on Fall Prevention sharing information and tips and handouts about healthy hearts, stroke prevention and diet. Any Elder needing a ride, please call the ENP at 475-2655.
