The Elders had a relaxing September. We enjoyed our Rendezvous Days Volunteer Cook-Out and Pot Luck. Many people were able to attend and ate some delicious food. Recipes were exchanged and a great time was had. A Miigwech to both Bill Hackett and Debbie Barr for cooking all the steaks and chicken.
We also celebrated Grandparent’s Day at High Falls State Park with a picnic, barbecue and games. Several families joined us for a fun time. A Chi Miigwech to the state park staff for the fun and entertaining games they set up. It was a memorable day and so nice to see the young children with their grandparents.
This month the Elders were treated to some useful information and demonstrations about processing summer’s harvest. We had presentations from our nutrition staff Tess Bailey, Harris Mills and Diane Booth from the Extension office. These were great and full of tips for preserving and processing our garden harvests.
A full agenda was planned for the Elder’s Advisory meeting. Subjects covered were upcoming elections, the volunteer reading program, future fundraising events and the fall color tour. More about that next month.
This month the ENP will once again offer fire extinguisher checks for those eligible Elders on Wednesday, October 30 at the ENP during lunch. A representative from Northland Fire & Safety will be at the ENP that day during lunch and will provide Elders information on the use and maintenance of their home extinguishers. October is Fire Safety month so remember to change your batteries on your home smoke detectors and bring your fire extinguisher to the ENP that day to be checked. For more information please call Patty at 475-2655.
All Elders 65 years or older having questions or concerns about Medicare can schedule an appointment with Marjori Bottila from the Senior Linkage Line. She will be here Monday, October 28 during the day to meet with people and will do a presentation on Medicare Part D and scams that night at the ENP. A light supper will be served. Watch for flyers. Transportation will be provided. Should you have some questions about the Affordable Care Act and how it might affect you, Marjori will be able to address those questions too.
