What a lovely fall we are having! I hope everyone is getting out to enjoy the weather. We have put our greenhouse to bed for the winter and have finally planted mums in our outside planters. It seems flowers were having a second bloom. We have enjoyed all the squash from the garden and will now need to start purchasing fresh veggies from the store. What a bountiful growing season we had this year!
The Elder Nutrition Program had 16 Elders participate in a four-hour AARP Driving Refresher class thereby securing their 10 percent auto insurance discount. A Chi Miigwech to Pam and Bill for volunteering to teach these classes. Living where we do it is important to keep up our driving skills as it helps to keep us living independently.
The Elders decorated 40 cakes for the annual Halloween Carnival Cake Walk. Fifteen more were donated. A total of 55 cakes were won at this very busy game. Miigwech to everyone for their time and artistry.
We are looking forward to our 10th Annual Chili Cook Off & Meat Bingo, Thursday, November 19 at the Grand Portage Community Center. This is one of our biggest fundraisers, so are you ready for a chili throw down? Everyone is encouraged to enter a chili for this event.
Prizes will be awarded for the Best, first and second place. Bingo prizes are packages of meat with the last game a cover-all that will be a complete turkey dinner. The Elders will also be having a White Elephant table and a 50/50 raffle. This is a great event for families. Hope to see you all there.
