The holiday season was joyful and fun for residents at North Shore Care Center with lots of traditional foods, music, gifts, and visitors. The residents want to thank the carolers, musicians, and volunteers for a memorable Christmas with best wishes for a happy new year.

There were some generous donations given to residents from the American Legion Auxiliary, First Congregational Church, and several Care Center families and employees. We are grateful to live in such a caring community.

2013 is here with the usual New Year trivia, resolutions— and the hope for more snow. Activities planned for January will be the usual exercise groups, history sessions, reading groups, movies, knitting, baking, outings, and live music by musicians Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, and Myron Bursheim.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 9 to honor Marge Jamison, Duane Linnell, Bill Erickson, and Irma Larsen. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. with piano music by Doug Sanders.

The Grand Marais Lioness Club will host its monthly social for residents with special desserts on Saturday, January 19 at 3 p.m., along with some old fashioned piano tunes by Irene Thompson.

The first dance of 2013 will feature Portage – the local country music band that performs the last Saturday of the month during the year. The dance will be Saturday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m. and community folks are always welcome.

January 20-26 is National Activity Professional’s Week—a time to recognize how meaningful activities enrich the quality of life for all of us— regardless of our age. It is also a time to acknowledge the Activity Department staff and the many volunteers who help make the programs happen all year long.

For more information about activity programs or volunteer opportunities, please contact the Activity Department at (218) 387-3518 or visit: www.nshorehospital.com.
