The Grand Portage Elders had a successful and fun St. Patrick’s Day Stew Cook Off and Meat Bingo fundraiser. The lucky winners—there was a tie for the tastiest stew— were Rick Johnson and Judy Ranta. They now share bragging rights.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Rita Ann Larsen who received $153.50. Mary Sherer won the last cover all game. Mary won a complete Easter ham dinner.
Miigwech to all our winners, the volunteers and everyone who came out to support us.
The proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to pay for the bus transportation to Jack Pot Junction for this year’s Wisdom Steps conference.
Some of our Elders have gone on vacation to warmer climates, but those staying home continue to participate in weekly water aerobics, cribbage, chair exercise and Reading with Kids mentoring.
Just a reminder, AARP tax preparation continues on Thursdays at the Grand Portage Community Center until April 10. Come see volunteers Chuck, Loretta or Barb for assistance.
The ENP sponsored a candidate forum for Grand Portage Tribal Council positions March 27 at the Old Community Building. The evening was facilitated by Rick Anderson and Carol Hackett. Many Band members attended and they were able to hear candidates’ platforms and have their questions answered. Miigwech to both Rick and Carol for their hard work and time and to the Elders for sponsoring this important event.
Good Luck to all the candidates and miigwech for running for office!
