Smith sentenced in check theft case

Kim Smith of Grand Marais, 43, pled guilty March 9, 2010 at the Cook County courthouse to four felony counts of theft by check and reappeared in court on April 7 for sentencing. Grand Portage to receive energy solutions funding

The Minnesota Chippewa Tribe has been awarded over $700,000 to help six reservations reduce energy use and create green jobs, and Grand Portage Tribal Council Executive Assistant Dana Logan said Grand Portage would be receiving approximately $50,000.
