Three Cook County residents, all members of the YMCA Masters swim program, participated in the 2.1-mile Point La Pointe swim from Bayfield, Wisconsin to Madeline Island on July 29. Mural going up at Birchbark Books and Gifts

In keeping with the existing theme, the new mural that is being placed on the north outside wall of Birchbark Books and Gifts is called “Imagine the Northwoods.” It adjoins the 2016 mural that depicts a young girl resting against a birch tree reading a book. DNR announces a new round of shooting range grants

A new round of grant funding to develop and improve shooting ranges throughout the state is available for 2017, according to the Department of Natural Resources. DNR reminds visitors to bring only approved firewood onto state lands

Only approved firewood is allowed on Department of Natural Resources-managed lands, which include state parks, state forests and wildlife management areas.
