Grand Marais skaters assist in Mariners’ success

The Silver Bay-Cook County Mariners hockey team recently finished the 2011-2012 season with a 14-12 record. The team was assisted at both ends of the ice by three Cook County Senior High students. The Grand Marais Art Colony has been awarded a $32,534 Minnesota State Arts Board grant to host the Grand Marais Arts Festival, July 14 – 15, 2012. Tofte’s Rita Wehseler wins Apostle Islands race

Rita Wehseler of Tofte was the winner of this year’s eight-dog Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race. The 17th annual event—held over two days— was on Feb. 4 and 5 near Bayfield and was comprised of 74 sled dog teams.
