Jordan Ekroot and Vaughn Swindlehurst recently received scholarships from the Arrowhead Eagles Aviation Organization. Vaughn received a $2,500 award that he’ll apply towards his goal of earning a private pilot certificate, in his quest to become a commercial pilot. A wildfire was spotted ten miles west of the Gunflint Trail in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) late June 13. The fire is near Spice Lake and Ogishkemuncie Lake in the BWCAW in the Gunflint Ranger District of the Superior National Forest. Hovland’s Rolland LaBoda of Night Train Racing Sled Dogs, age 12, was the second youngest musher at the CopperDog 15 sled dog race. His father, Charlie, finished third in the CopperDog 15.
