Preliminary autopsy results for Quincy Adam Pederson, a robbery suspect who died after his vehicle crashed when he was fleeing from law enforcement on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, have determined that the 38-year-old man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cook County Law Enforcement received a call at 1:47 p.m. on May 9, reporting a fire danger at the City of Grand Marais’s brush disposal site near the Grand Marais water tower. Mildred “Millie” Mainella, 101, of Grand Marais, is well known in Cook County. She grew up in Hovland and in 1941, she married a Civilian Conservation Corps foreman, Charles “Charlie” Mainella. The 2009 Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program held its graduation ceremony on Friday, May 8. Fifty-one students were congratulated for completing ten weeks of D.A.R.E. lessons which focus on decision-making skills, teaching ways to resist peer pressure, suggesting healthy alternatives to drug use and helping build self-esteem.
