On May 6, 2016 at approximately 9 p.m., an alarm sounded to notify Cook County Law Enforcement that a possible break-in was occurring at Grand Marais Pharmacy on the corner of 5th Avenue and Highway 61. At 6:56 a.m. on Sunday, May 8, emergency pages sounded for the Maple Hill and Grand Marais Volunteer Fire Departments to respond to a fire at Hedstrom Lumber.
