Chris Hegg | May 28, 2011
Fresh from our girls’ team victory at the Barnum Sap Run Invitational, we headed back to Barnum for the Polar League Championships. With the addition of state track power Esko and the very good Two Harbors team to the roster, there was no chance to contend for team titles. But we do have some very good individual competitors and relay... READ MORE >
Viking girls win Barnum track meet
Chris Hegg | May 21, 2011
When we were planning for this meet, our goal was to try and score as many team points as possible, rather than our usual plan of looking for individual improvement in anticipation of the upcoming Polar League Championships and Section 7A playoffs. Realistically, there are many scoring events such as high jumping, pole vaulting, long and triple jumping, and throwing... READ MORE >

Chris Hegg | May 07, 2011
Over a month after our only indoor meet, after seven weeks of practice in some of the worst spring weather in memory, and after having our meet scheduled for Tuesday in Two Harbors cancelled because of 30 mph winds, 30 degree temperatures and snow, we finally got a chance to compete at the big 12-team meet in Hermantown Friday, April... With only a week and a half of practice— all indoors running the hallways and throwing in the gym—the Viking track team headed to the Proctorsponsored indoor meet at the beautiful indoor track facility at University of Wisconsin in Superior. It’s been a crazy start to the season. We’ve had over 50 kids come to practice, over half of them... READ MORE >

Our usual caravan of coaches, teammates, families and friends accompanied our two running stars of the 2010 season, senior Ailee Larson, and sophomore Kieran Scannell down to the State cross country meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Thisyear’s group was pretty experienced. Thiswas our ninth straight trip to the state meet. In addition, Kieran and Ailee both went to... READ MORE >
Scannell and Larson run to State
Chris Hegg | November 06, 2010
We weren’t too stressed when the Section 7A meet was postponed from Thursday to Friday because of a 10-inch snowfall at the Cloquet Country Club on Wednesday. We were pretty surprised however, when we pulled up to the golf course and saw there was still a couple of inches on the ground. We checked, but the officials said no skis... READ MORE >

Chris Hegg | October 30, 2010
We headed down to Proctor for the final meet of the season before the important Section 7A championships Thursday, October 28 at the Cloquet Country Club. Twelve Class A teams showed up for the meet, about half of the total who will be running at Sections. All the Iron Range teams were missing, as they had their conference championships the... Great racing at Pincushion
Chris Hegg | October 23, 2010
We always enjoy returning home to run cross-country on the Pincushion Trails overlooking Grand Marais and Lake Superior. Although Pincushion is the toughest, hilliest course we race, the home crowd is great and the opportunity to train and race at Pincushion gives us a little home course advantage. This year was even better, as the weather was perfect fall running... READ MORE >

Chris Hegg | October 16, 2010
Coming off outstanding performances at the huge Milaca and Swain cross country meets, we went to the Hibbing Invitational with high expectations. Team leaders Kieran Scannell and Ailee Larson were rated 4th and 10th in the region by Duluth News Tribune, the boys were the number 2 Class A team in Section 7, and the girls were improving steadily, one... Chris Hegg | October 09, 2010
The bus headed out before the crack of dawn Saturday to the 60th annual Swain Invitational cross country meet at Duluth’s Enger Park. Our 35 runners would soon be competing with 2,000 runners from throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin, on one of the hilliest courses in the Midwest. If you have been driving around town the last few weeks, you... READ MORE >
