County board approves 5.5 percent preliminary 2023 tax levy

After a lengthy discussion, the county commissioners voted 4-1 to set the preliminary tax levy of 5.5 percent for 2023. The final levy must be set before the start of the new year and can’t be set higher than 5.5 percent, noted Administrator James Joerke. Chris Hegg, 70, won his age group in the Minnesota Mile by, well, a country mile! The Maple Hill runner clocked 6:56 while second place Duluth runner Jerome Earold, 72, finished in 8:52.
