All of us experience losses in life. Theymay come in different forms: the loss of a loved one to death, loss of a job, broken friendships, divorce, and changes in physical or mental health. Thelosses also occur when we have what we consider positive experiences: marriage, birth of a child, new jobs and so on. In each of these, we experience joys, but there may also be things we miss as we adapt to new rhythms and give up some of our freedom. Life’s losses can bring a myriad of emotions: sadness, anger, guilt, relief, uncertainty.
How do we deal with our losses and the changes they bring? How can we grieve in healthy ways? How can we help one another through these times?
Certainly, as Christians we rely on Jesus Christ to walk with us through all of life’s changes, giving us comfort, forgiveness, and grace. Often we experience these gifts of God through friends who reach out to us in love and kindness.
On May 29, we will have the opportunity to learn more about the grieving process. Zoar Lutheran Church of Tofte and Zion Lutheran Church of Finland have invited Dennis Herschbach to speak to them on this topic. As many of you know, Dennis Herschbach lost his wife to death several years ago and wrote a book about his experiences. We look forward to what he has to teach us about this important subject.
Zoar Church of Tofte and Zion Church of Finland wish to invite all of you to attend the presentation from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at Zion Church of Finland.
