Have you ever wanted to learn to fly fish? Are you interested in learning more about water quality and why it is important for fish?
Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District is partnering with MN Trout Unlimited, Cook County Kids Plus, Cook County Extension and Community Education to host a fun-filled day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) of fishing and education on May 10. The day will involve heading to a stream to learn about stream ecology and water quality, learning about fly fishing at a local lake (if the ice is out) and then all the skills will be put to use to catch some fish.
Bring waders, a fly rod and flies, water, snacks, a lunch and whatever else you may need to be outside all day and possibly be wet. Dress appropriately for any type of weather – rain or shine.
All youth ages 11-18 are welcome, and parents are encouraged to accompany their youngsters. Space is limited to 20 youth and 12 parents; all individuals over the age of 16 must have a fishing license and trout stamp. Fishing will be catch and release only.
Registration deadline is May 7. Call (218) 387-3647 for more information.
