In T-ball, the Moose played a double header in the heat on Monday. First they played the Blue Jays and then the Turtles. There was lots of water on hand and the games were played quickly. I didn’t hear any complaining from the players but the fans on the other hand had a lot to say about the heat wave. The T-ball kids were hitting, running and playing in the sand just like every other game. Great games kids!

On Tuesday, the Parent Pitch league had the Lions playing the Yankees. The Yankees got back to their winning ways with a victory over the Lions. I was able to watch a little of that game and both teams hit and fielded the ball very well. Both the Lions and the Yankees were scoring runs and making outs in the field.

In the other game the Lumberjacks took on the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds came into this game with a two-game winning streak and looked to make it three games in a row until Chase Gwash hit a game winning grand slam. The Lumberjacks won the game 15 – 14. What a great game! The playoffs start on Tuesday, July 26 and both the Thunderbirds and the Lions are hungry for an upset in their first playoff games. It will be fun to watch.

In Little League on Tuesday, we had the Silver Bay Brewers come to town to play our Dodgers and Twins. The Dodgers faced the Brewers first and what a great game it was. They played a very close back-and-forth battle with the Brewers coming out on top with a 1 run victory. Both teams hit the ball well and had great pitching and made their share of plays in the field.

The Twins played the Brewers next. Bradley Wilson pitched a great game, holding the Brewers to 2 runs. Jacob Bilben was the star at the plate for the Twins. He hit a double and a triple, driving in runs on both hits. Coach Finke said, “Jacob’s bat is coming alive for us.”

Jacob and Bradley led their team to an 11 – 2 victory. Coach Finke would like to thank Luke, Josh and Ethan for helping out in the game.

Left: Right before he hit the ball a country mile, Josh Prom brought his bat back and unleashed a mighty swing. Despite some mighty fine fielding and hitting by the Dodgers, they lost to the Twins.

I would like to thank the Silver Bay Brewers’ players, fans and coaches for driving here to play our teams. It has been a great experience for our young players. Personally I hope we can do more next year. Thank you Silver Bay!

On Sunday, the Twins played a double header. First they played the Dodgers. At game time it was hot, but both teams played through it.

Despite some good pitching by the Dodgers, the Twins’ bats were too much as they went on to a 6-run victory. By the time the second game came along the temperatures had cooled a bit and so had the Twins’ bats.

Andrew Miller had his best pitching performance of the year. He held the Twins scoreless for four innings. The Twins tried a comeback in their last at bats, but the Cubs held them off for a 6 – 4 victory. The Twins still have a good hold on the top stop in the standings, but in the playoffs anything can happen.

Playoff games in both Parent Pitch and Little League are on Tuesday, July 26, with the championship games being played on Sunday, July 31.
