The Cook County M2s played in Two Harbors December 11 – 12. This year we have a very young team, but that did nothing to deter them from some excellent hockey!
Game one was against Two Harbors Maroon. This was the toughest battle of the whole weekend. Our M2s came out timid to a strong Two Harbors team but finally started to
gel in the third period. Trevor Berglund scored the lone goal in the game for a final score of 1-10. Goalie Chase Gwash took a lot of shots in the net and had dozens of great saves. Game 2 was against the Hermantown Penguins. Our M2s were a lot more fired up this time. Trevor Berglund scored the first goal of the game just 2:53 into the game. Alyssa Lashinski had a lot of very aggressive play on the ice. Jayden Grivette tallied a hat trick plus 1. Goalie Chase Gwash was nailed pretty hard in the net. He took 57 shots and saved 53 of them for a final score of 5-4.
Game 3 was on Sunday against Glen Avon Red. We came out strong and everyone played very hard. For a young team, we have a lot of tenacity out there on the ice. Jayden Grivette scored one for Cook County but Glen Avon put two past Chase Gwash. Chase put a stop to 23 on Sunday. Nate Bilben and Tucker Foley did a great job putting themselves in between the puck and the net on defense. Thefinal score of the game was 1-2.
Cook County Youth Hockey expressed appreciation to the Grand Marais State Bank for its support of the tournament.
Congratulations to our M2s on their first 2010-2011 Jamboree!
The M1s will be playing next on January 8-9 in Silver Bay. The M1s and M2s will play together on January 15-16 at the Portman Jamboree in Duluth.
