You are not alone!

As I see it

During the 2018 Lions’ Fisherman’s Picnic and helping staff the booth set up by the Cook County Republicans, staffers learned much about the “under recognized local political leaning” landscape. First of all, it became evident that many non-local visitors were surprised to know there were Republicans in the county! And also, that local people the staffers knew or met wanted to share their thoughts and aligned with similar hopes for our county, state and country.

Yes, YOU are not alone as a voting resident of Cook County if you support the following Statement of Principles set by members of Minnesota’s individual GOP units and adopted by the MN GOP. There are 10 sections that are guidelines for the party’s work:

Promote Economic Prosperity

We believe individuals, not government, drive economic prosperity. We support lowering the tax burden, exercising spending restraint, and creating and maintaining a fair, honest and competitive business environment to promote economic prosperity.

Preserve Civil Rights

We believe we are “endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights.” We support defending the right to life, protecting religious and political liberties, and expect that government treat all of its citizens equally under the law. We support respecting personal privacy and property, protecting the right to bear arms, and giving workers the right to decide whether to join a union.

Protect our Health Care

We recognize that the United States has the most advanced health care system in the world, leading in innovation and new technology development. Through genuine market competition and granting people choices, we can make health care more affordable, of higher quality and available to more Americans, while protecting privacy.

Educate our Children

We believe that parents must have choices for their children’s education so that we can better educate, with more effective administration, while emphasizing traditional American values.

Strengthen our Families and Communities

We recognize the blessings that God has bestowed on this great nation. We also recognize the central role of the traditional family in our society and the necessity of traditional values for strengthening our families and communities.

Protect Public Safety

We believe that the most fundamental function of government is to keep citizens and our property secure.

Strengthen the Rule of Law

We support limiting frivolous lawsuits, preserving judicial elections, holding judges accountable, and respecting the rule of law.

Enjoy and Protect our Natural Resources

We believe that proper stewardship of our natural resources and agricultural lands is best achieved through sound science and adherence to constitutionally guaranteed property rights.

Make Government Smaller and Better

We support keeping government functions in state, local or private hands, electing honest and responsive legislative bodies, advocating for fair election processes, and generally making government smaller and better.

Defend America at Home and Abroad

We believe that we can maintain peace by having a strong national defense, securing our borders and by seeking principled international relationships.

This 2018 election year, commonly known as the mid-terms, there are eight U.S. or MN Republicanendorsed candidates on the ballot that many in the county will vote on by mail, or if in the Grand Marais area will go to the polls at the Cook County courthouse or Cook County Community Center Nov. 6.

In our democracy it is our privilege and responsibility to vote, and before we do so, to understand what candidates “stand” for in their aim to help those they wish to serve. They are as follows listed as for which office, their names and individual websites:

. US SENATE Class 1
Jim Newberger

These are candidates I have met in person, listened to, and had some discussions with during these past months. I am very encouraged by their values, aspirations and hopes to serve Minnesota and the United States.

CC GOP BPOU (Basic Political Operational Unit) has the following officers: Chair Mary Petz, Secretary Paul Just, and Treasurer Catherine Just, all of Hovland.

If you wish to become better informed of local unit activities throughout the year, and particular info from the MN GOP, please contact Mary at 475-2500, or email me at tamarack@boreal.org.

Also, please consider aiding those that may need to have help getting out to the voting booth next month or receiving and sending their mail ballot. Most importantly, it is CRUCIAL for our state and country that YOU make your Republican voice heard by voting in the November 6 election!
