Cook County YMCA swim coach Emily Breaker brought her team to Duluth on Saturday, December 16 to participate in a field of five teams and about 270 swimmers. The swim meet was held at Lincoln Middle School.

Despite the large numbers and stiff competition, several local kids took top places in their individual events.

“Many kids improved their times in their races, and a few kids tried some new events,” said Breaker.

Jack Willis (age 14) took first place in the boys’ 13-14-year-old 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:33.

Tristan Surbaugh (age 12) took first in the boys’ 11-12-year-old 100 Free with a time of 1:22. Isaak Lien (age 9) took second in the boys’ 9-10-year-old in the 100 I.M. with a time of 1:54.

“Finnley Taylor (age 11) tried his first 500 Free at a meet this year and did an awesome job completing the race in 8:37 which earned him third place,” reported Breaker.

The kids, said Breaker, “all did such a good job with each event.”
