Last Sunday was bluebird day for golf and the golf course at Superior National in Lutsen was in prime shape, even if not all of the golfers could say the same.

The Chip in Fore Youth Golf Scramble was held September 26 at the Superior National Golf course in Lutsen. The nine-hole tournament featured teams of four battling it out to see who would take home top honors in the scramble format.

Despite playing with just three players, the team of Lori Backlund, Cathy Nevers and Mike Sampson took first place with a score of five under.

Branch Executive Director Duluth Area Family (Cook County) YMCA Director Emily Marshall said,

“The tournament raised $5,000 for youth program scholarships. Community Education and the YMCA hold this fundraiser together each year to support Cook County Youth Agency Coalition (CCYAC) programs.

“These programs consist mainly of the Early Childhood Education Center, After School Programs, Summer Day Camp, and Youth in Government. We never turn anyone away for the inability to pay for services and work with families to make sure that these types of opportunities fit into their budget. Community Education and the Y have been partnering formally since 2015 to offer youth programs to all kids in the county.”
