The hosting of the Y-ski Olympics provided a grand finale to the Cook County Youth Cross Country ski season. The warm spring-like weather made for a great turnout of the 60 kids, from kindergarten to sixth grade, who participate in the Y-ski program. The Olympics consisted of four events for each skier to participate in: a bobsled run, a slalom course, chariot races and an obstacle course. Of course each event was accomplished on skis making for a true test of skiing ability and lots of laughter. The final event was a race by age groupings and skiing level.

Beautiful weather made spectating enjoyable, as many parents, family members and friends cheered on the participants. All participants, group leaders and helpers received a medal at the end of the events since the day is more about having fun skiing than competing. Many thanks to The Crooked Spoon for providing lunch and nourishment to the athletes prior to the events.

The North Superior Ski and Run Club and parents presented Amy and Peter Henrikson an award for their five years leading the Y-ski program. Parents expressed appreciation for the many hours Peter and Amy have spent over the years coordinating the program. Amy Henrikson addressed the group, thanking the parents and leaders for their help, and added, “Mostly we would like to thank the kids who participate, since you are what the program is all about.”
