WTIP North Shore Community Radio held its annual meeting on May 2, 2012 at East Bay Suites in Grand Marais. More than 50 station members came to the potluck and meeting to learn about the station news from over the past year.

Board President Ann Possis introduced the WTIP board and staff members, followed by Treasurer Hyla Napadensky, who provided an overview of the station’s finances, which is sound thanks to the strong support from members, underwriters, and foundations.

Station Manager Deb Benedict reviewed some of the projects carried out last year, including the Youth Radio Project and Safer initiatives, both of which were made possible by grants. Benedict also reviewed some of the station’s accomplishments in 2011, including replacing the Gunflint translator with a transmitter to increase coverage on the Gunflint Trail.

WTIP’s Program Director Roger Linehan reviewed programming, which continues to focus on serving the unique needs and interests of the area. Linehan also handed out certificates of appreciation to the station’s volunteers, who number over 70.

“It’s amazing,” Benedict said, “to see what has been accomplished since the station’s inception.”
