WTIP North Shore Community Radio has been recognized in the 2012 Minnesota AP Broadcasters Awards.
Station staff and volunteers regularly produce features that bring forward a variety of voices and perspectives on topics that explore the rich culture of the North Shore region.
The Associated Press recently announced that several of these features have been singled out for recognition.
WTIP’s Carah Thomas received first place in the “Feature” category for her piece Behind the Work: Joshua Lindstrom of Fika Coffee.
WTIP also received first place in the “Series/Special” category for the Lake Superior Project, produced by Kelly Schoenfelder and Barbara Jean Meyers.
Fred Smith also received first place in the “Writing” category for his commentary Wildersmith September 21.
Receiving honorable mentions in the “Feature” category were Moments in Time: The Beaver House by Carah Thomas and Anishinaabe Photographer Travis Novitsky by Staci Drouillard. WTIP also received honorable mention in the “Documentary/ Investigative” category for History Speaks: Isle Royale National Park, by Kelly Schoenfelder and Barbara Jean Meyers.

The Associated Press awards honor WTIP’s efforts to produce culturally-rich and thoughtful content. WTIP covers topics that not only have local significance but are of interest to a larger audience as well.
