WTIP Radio offers “1 percent” webpage

WTIP Community Radio has developed a community resource webpage designed to engage and inform citizens about the upcoming 1 percent sales tax referendum.

A 1 percent sales tax is being proposed to fund infrastructure costs for projects around Cook County. In order for the proposed sales tax to be implemented, it needs to pass a countywide voter referendum this fall. WTIP has created a webpage designed to be a resource for community members to obtain information about the proposed tax.

The webpage, www.wtip.org/onepercentsalestax.html, contains background information on the tax, including its origin as a means of raising funds for the North Shore Hospital and Care Center. The webpage also contains information on all seven projects included for funding in the referendum, an archive of WTIP news stories related to the sales tax dating back to 2007, information about upcoming WTIP programs as well as past programs on the sales tax, and links to organizations that have information related to specific projects being considered for funding.

WTIP is also interested in hearing from county residents and concerned individuals about the tax and has included ways to email feedback and questions to the station. We have also provided a link to submit questions and comments to the county.

It is WTIP’s goal to provide community members with reliable information so each individual is empowered to make informed decisions. In addition to this webpage, WTIP and the Cook County News-Herald will be hosting a community information forum on Oct. 13 at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.
