WTIP North Shore Community Radio celebrated two anniversaries recently. Thursday, April 29 marked 12 years of WTIP’s service, and April also marked Deb Benedict’s ninth year as executive director.
Throughout its 12 years of service, WTIP has worked to serve its listeners. When Benedict came on board, she worked to embrace opportunities to build relationships and serve the station’s everincreasing community of listeners. Efforts include news and weather services, explorations of issues affecting the area, and engagement and outreach efforts, both on and off the air.
“Deb’s entrepreneurial spirit has brought this station where it is today,” says WTIP’s board president, Ann Possis. “She has constantly pushed WTIP ahead with new ideas, hard work, and a community focus. We owe her enormous credit for where the station is now—a leader in community radio nationwide.”
As a volunteer-driven community station, WTIP recognizes that its services would not be possible without community support. Benedict says, “We are thankful for the volunteer, listener-member and business support we have received over the years, and we look forward to continuing to serve the community in the years to come.”
WTIP is the only local radio station serving Minnesota’s North Shore and beyond. It provides area news, weather, entertainment and engagement services. Its website, www.wtip.org, also serves as a portal for out-of-area listeners to get a taste of the North Shore.
