WTIP Announces Headliners for 16th Annual Radio Waves Music Festival September 8 to 10

WTIP Community Radio is thrilled to announce the 2023 Radio Waves Music Festival, September 8 to 10, at Sweetheart’s Bluff in the Grand Marais Recreation Area. This marks the 25th birthday of WTIP Community Radio and the 16th year of this family friendly festival, which features an array of diverse musical genres. The event showcases three days of live music under the big sky and bright stars on the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Twenty-two local, regional and national acts will take the stage this year, including R & B legend John Ellison and The Carpenter Ants, who will perform a 90-minute gospel set on Sunday morning of the Festival. WTIP welcomes five acts new to Radio Waves, including the alt-folk group Humbird, and Americana singer songwriter David Huckfelt. The weekend will also feature many talented regional performers, including: Sam Miltich with Briand Morrison and the Clearwater Hot Club, Upjumped Touble, Rich Mattson & the Northstars, The Evening Stars, The Splints, Colleen “Boss Mama” Myhre with Jebberhooch. Festival hours are Friday, 2:30 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A favorite of visitors and area residents as well as performing musicians, Radio Waves is held rain or shine – with two stages housed under a large tent – and includes on-site food vendors. WTIP offers pre-sale weekend passes online. Admission, also available at the gate, is $20 per day, or $40 for the full Festival. Admission is free to children 12 and under. Campsite reservations at the Grand Marais Rec Park are recommended.
