Writer thanks the generous people who gave to provide for K9 defender Eddy

To date, 69 generous, gracious folks have donated $7,693.20 in amounts large and small, and all appreciated, to support Eddy, our K9 defender who works with Cook County Deputy Paul Spry and other members of the Sheriff ’s Office to keep county residents and visitors safe.

The latest donations came last week, when Pat Zankman donated $1,000 in her First & Second Store earnings to Eddy. Her contribution was both generous and very much appreciated, as was every one of them.

Sheriff Pat Eliasen said last week that his department was humbled “knowing that the community would come together like this to ensure a vital program for our office is adequately equipped and funded. We cannot thank everyone enough.”

The board of the Cook County Chamber Foundation is humbled as well. We feel privileged to facilitate collection of the generous donations so many have made to Eddy.

And we are not done. We set out in December to raise the $5,000 needed to construct an agility course that Eddy’s handler, Paul Spry, could use to keep Eddy fit and well-trained. The course will be built with the very generous assistance of ISD 166 industrial arts teacher Chris Rauzi and his students.

But Eddy has other needs as well, from vet visits and dog food to certification fees and travel to training centers. The additional $2,693.20 collected so far will go toward those needs, and we will continue to encourage donations for Eddy’s ongoing support.

To make a donation, you can send a check to CC Chamber Foundation, P.O. Box 805, Grand Marais, MN 55604. Or you can donate on our website: cookcountychamber.org/support_eddy__our_canine_protector

We also have a Facebook fundraiser for Eddy, which you can find at this web address: tinyurl.com/yalvuws9

Because the Chamber Foundation is a 501c3 organization, donations in support of Eddy are fully tax-deductible.

With so many donors, it is impossible to list all of their names. But the 69 folks who have given amounts from $2,000 to $20 should know that every dime is very much appreciated.
